“Officially retired. Thank you to my family, friends and fans! God bless!”
With that tweet, 38 year old Shane Carwin has officially stepped away from the sport of Mixed Martial Arts after being plagued by injuries over the last two years.
Carwin won his first 12 bouts inside the cage, racking up an interim UFC Heavyweight Championship in the process before losing his last two fights to Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos.
After a stint as a coach on the 16th season of The Ultimate Fighter, Carwin was expected to face opposing Roy Nelson in December of last year but a knee injury forced him out of the fight.
