Josh Thomson Vs. Anthony Pettis In The Works, UFC 166 In Texas Possible

A lightweight match up between Josh Thomson and Anthony Pettis could be in the works for UFC 166 which takes place in October at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX.

During the UFC Fan Expo this past weekend in Las Vegas, Thomson spoke to UFC President Dana White and posted the following tweet:

Pettis was quick to reply and show interest in the bout:

Too which Thomson replied trying to lock things up:

Thomson’s training partner Cain Velasquez is also fighting on the UFC 166 which makes it an ideal situation for him as the two will be in the gym anyway. Fresh off a win over Nate Diaz, Thomson is looking to lock up a shot at the UFC Lightweight Title. Pettis later spoke to MMAFighting.com about the fight but had reservations:

“Thomson called me out,” he said. “I’m never afraid to fight anyone, and I’m tired of waiting. If I’m supposed to be the best, then why not beat him in October? [It will] set me up for a title shot late this year or early next [year].

“Only bad thing is no one really knows who he is.”

  1. That could be a good matchup

  2. this will be a good fight but thompson will have not have an easy time. anthony pettis, to me, looks like the next champion. his striking is just brutal.

  3. Great match-up but why the fuck can’t the UFC be consistent? When an injured fighter puts an end to a must-see match, make that match happen later!
