Vitor Belfort Will Only Fight At 185lbs For UFC Title Says Manager

Despite reports suggesting Vitor Belfort would fight Tim Kennedy in his next fight, his wife and manager Joana Prado tells Brazil news outlet Combate that Belfort will not be fighting in the middleweight division unless it is for the UFC Middleweight Championship.

That doesn’t mean that the top ranked middleweight isn’t interested in fighting in higher weight classes, as high as heavyweight in fact:

“It doesn’t make sense that Vitor, who is No. 1 in the rankings, should fight against No. 2, No. 6 or No. 10 in his weight class. His next fight in the middleweight class will be against the winner of Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva. If the UFC wishes him to fight in any class above middleweight, we are at their disposal. It can be anyone, Tim Kennedy, even Roy Nelson, but it has to be at 205 pounds or heavyweight – he’ll even fight as a heavyweight. Vitor wants to fight, but in his weight class, only if for the belt.”

  2. Man, who does he think he is?!

  3. Vitor is a dick

  4. seen as how he has either ko’d or tko’d every other opponent accept the 185 pound (that he has fought in that division) champ i’d say give it to him.

  5. Well, guess he just retired

  6. if you know what weight cutting is, you would understand where he is coming from.. he did everything he was asked to do.. took out the number 1 contender bisping and strikeforce middleweight champ with ridiculous headkick ko’s.. made his way to the top of the division.. to get a lower ranked opponent that would not lead to the title shot.. he’s getting older.. he’s in his prime.. give him the title shot!!! geezez..

  7. Why, so we can see him take another front kick to the face! Not interested.

  8. Vitor is absolutely right. Wait for his middleweight title shot, that he has no doubt earned. Take fights in other divisions that, win or lose, have no effect on his middleweight rankings. Makes sense. Keeps him busy, and keeps himself at the higher end of the MW division.

If you think about it, he was just seconds away from armbarring the LHW title away from Jones. He’s the ONLY man who has even come remotely close to finishing Jon Jones.

Vitor has earned his stripes. TRT, or not. He has beaten (stopped) everyone he’s fought since returning to the UFC except Silva and Jones, and he almost DID beat Jones. A man nearing 40, staying at this level of competition and WINNING, has pretty much earned the right to pick where he wants to fight. I’m sure Dana would agree, as a focused Belfort is a scary opponent for ANYONE, including Silva, Weidman, or Jones.

Good comment Jake Seal. You obviously know what your talking about. He KO’d Rich Franklin, Micheal Bisbing, Akiyama, and the Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold, plus, like you’ve said, he almost finished Jones! And that is not easy : ) I would like to see him rematch Wand Silva because they were supposed to fight a few months ago, but never did, and let that winner fight Anderson Silva. I know people are like why Wand? But he has ONLY lost decisions in the UFC, he has never been beat Except from Quinton and Leben, but he KO’d Quinton twice in Pride and had Leben hurt, but ran into a punch. Wanderlie KO’d Cung Lee and Brian Stan, and beat Bisbing, so that’s what I want to see for the number one contender match.
