Georges St. Pierre Considering Retirement Says Trainer

Head Trainer for Georges St. Pierre, Firas Zahabi was guest on Canadian TV show TVA Sportsand this week and discussed his star pupils training for his upcoming UFC title defense against Johny Hendricks next month. Zahabi also dished a little tidbit about where St. Pierre’s future could be headed following the bout with Hendricks:

“George told me … If he still has the motivation for another training camp, he will continue. Otherwise, he will retire, ” said Firas Thursday. “Motivation is the most important thing. When you do not have it, you have nothing. Georges is motivated for this camp. He trains well.”

“We need to train every day, do not go out and do not do things you love. Train all day long, it is not easy, it’s really something. It takes a special mind to do MMA. ”

“This is the first time he will face a fighter with such a large strike force,” said Zahabi. “Often, a guy who hits like Hendricks has no endurance. This is often one or the other.

“But it will not be easy for him to do five rounds against George. That will be his first time.”

“This will be the 12th time he tries to win or defend a world title. His mind is there and it has a lot of experience.”

  1. Fight aljon mariano!

  2. Another very wise decision by GSP.. Its time to go, now that he is untouchable.. Waiting for someone that is going to crack his legacy would be stupid..

  3. 110% respect to GSP no matter what he decided, class act other fighters should model themselves around GSP

  4. What a B! He’s just saying that in case he loses to Hendricks. GSP is one of the smartest UFC fighters ever. Think about how weak his fights are as far as trying to finish anyone. He’s just scared to lose, so now he’s going to retire if he does.

  5. I never cared for his style of fighting . he is not an exciting fighter. I haven’t been excited about one of his fights since before the first matt serra fight. he is just too scared to loose that he plays it way too safe. let Hendricks destroy him although GSP will probably grease in this fight .

  6. Cause he knows johnny is going to put him in a body bag.

  7. with that mindset i can see hendricks winning being the hungrier fighter

  8. Gsp I one of the smartest fighters ever, he takes the most powerful aspect of any opponent and does it better. A finisher,no, but a brilliant Athelete.

  9. As the Japanese say,”Why retire if you’re on top?”

  10. Good.

  11. Yes

  12. His thing to Hendricks

  13. if gsp retires it’s because of the vada/wada drug testing. he’s close to being outed so he’s gonna shut it down before things get bad. gsp is being sponsored by a testing company. little suspect dontcha think? lol

  14. Most boring fighter in the UFC ever!

  15. i don’t know why so many hate the guy. he has shown incredible skill since he became pro. the only poor fight i watched by him was serra 1. it was obvious he didn’t take serra seriously. but look at how he dismantled so many opponents since. i have been bored at times by him but he was pushing for longevity in the sport and thinking about life after retirement. he fought smart. personally i want him to put on a great fight with hendricks before he retires. i want him to lose. but i want to know he put 100% into it. i wish him well.

  16. He knows Hendricks is going to close the gap on him and knock him out. To talk abou the retirement before this fight is lame and disrespectful to hedricks…fuck gsp I ve got no time for him and his lay and pray bullshit.

  17. knock his ass out Hendricks!!!

  18. The hate towards GSP comes from him dominating these guys favorite fighters. Not hard to figure that out. lol

  19. GSP: I’m not impressed by your performance.
