Alexander Gustafsson Injured, Jones vs. Cormier At UFC 178

UFC announced on Wednesday that Alexander Gustafsson suffered an injury during training and will not be able to compete against UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 178 on September 27th.

Undefeated, top-ranked 205-pound contender Daniel Cormier will now step up and face Jones for the title in the new UFC 178 main event.

It’s a tough break for the Swedish fighter, but the announcement states that the fight has been “postponed,” so he’s likely in line to face the winner of Jones vs. Gustafsson.

Cormier told Joe Rogan after his last fight:

“Jon Jones, you can’t run away from me forever. I’m the kid at the wrestling tournament that is always in your bracket. No matter where you go, I’m coming. You better hurry because I’m getting better.”

Jones has been UFC’s Light Heavyweight Champion since 2011, racking up seven consecutive title defenses against the likes of Rampage Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, and Vitor Belfort.

With the new main event, here’s the updated card for UFC 178:

UFC Light Heavyweight Championship
– Jon Jones (c) vs. Daniel Cormier

– Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier

– Dominick Cruz vs.Takeya Mizugaki

– Tim Kennedy vs. Yoel Romero

– Cat Zingano’s vs. Amanda Nunes

Wow!!!! Cormier is undefeated for a reason. Then again, Jones is undefeated for a reason too, (Hamill D.Q. doesn’t count because Jones mauled him) What a fight!!! And Tim boringashit Kennedy is going to get TKO’d. God bless…

I saw the comment that was deleted, and it was pathetic. Like a little boy who has nothing intelligent to say. Well, I thank God you did not say something that disrespectful to my face because I Would have smacked your face. (Only To teach u a lesson that you have to be willing to die for the Truth, and the words you speak.) But whatever, God bless you and according to your Faith may your Life lead you to what u deserve.

Wow! So, Jones beat him to the ground, then starting elbowing him til he was bloody and injured, Then he threw an illegal elbow on accident, they pause the fight to see if Hamill could continue, and he said duck you, take me to the hospital, and they DQ’d Jones and you think that is a loss. Well, everyone is entitled to an opinion. According to you Refs do not make mistakes because, hey, a loss is a loss. Or when someone who cheats and takes steroids beats somebody, to you that is a loss, well I disagree like Gina Carano ‘s loss to Chris bag of steroids cyborg was not a loss, But in your defense, the history books would agree with you. God bless you

What is going on with all these fighters getting injured? Jones vs Cormier is a great fill in but fuck. I’m going with Cormier after the way he handled Hendo.
