A new main event has been made official following a hand injury that will force WAMMA Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko out of his first title defense against Andrei Arlovski. The new main event is scheduled to be “The Baby Faced Assassin” Josh Barnett (23-5) facing off against “The Pitbull” Arlovski (13-5).
This fight will likely decide who will face Fedor for the title when he is able to make his return. Emelianenko has been rumored to be fighting Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic on New Years Eve in Japan in a rematch of their 2005 classic. There have been rumors that DREAM is on it's way under though so that fight may not even happen which could mean the winner of Barnett/Arlovski could fight Fedor on New Years Eve or early 2009.
Both Arlovski and Barnett are coming off wins at the debut Affliction show, beating Ben Rothwell and Pedro Rizzo respectively. Both fighters are also on mini win steaks with Arlovski having four in a row and Barnett three.
Affliction 2: Day of Reckoning is scheduled to take place on October 11th when Affliction invades UFC turf at the Thomas and Mack center in Las Vegas, NV. The main card of the evening will air live on PPV beginning at 10pm EST
