MAIN EVENT
Jermain Taylor vs. Winky Wright
FINAL RESULT: MMANews.com unofficially scores the bout 116-112 for Jermain Taylor. Harold Lederman of HBO has it unofficially a draw, 114-114.
We await the official scorecards...
115-113 Taylor, 115-113 Wright, 114-114. The fight ends in a draw, Jermain Taylor retains his titles.
Round 12: A duplicate of De La Hoya vs. Trinidad in the late rounds. Winky got on his bicycle and danced around and avoided trading with Taylor. Taylor had a couple of flurries, nothing really major landed clean but it was flashy a few times. Could be a Taylor round.
Round 11: Another close round, this one was a little slow compared to the rest of the fight. I'd probably lean towards Winky here, but it could go either way - like many of the rounds in this fight.
Round 10: What an amazing fight this has turned out to be. Big round for Taylor. Another headbutt. Winky is swelled up, Taylor's left eye is swelled up bad, and the two continue to trade vicious combos back and forth. Definitely a Taylor round in this one.
Round 9: Very good round, pretty close. Probably Winky's round. Taylor has massive swelling on his left eye, almost completely shut. Winky was more accurate, but Taylor was busier. Ok, the headbutt was shown on replay and that's what caused the bad swelling for Taylor. Harold Lederman and Larry Merchant have it 5-4 for Winky Wright so far, MMANews.com has it 6-3 for Taylor.
Round 8: This one was pretty close, probably Taylor's. Taylor was doing well early, but Winky had him in some trouble when he had him stuck in a corner. He did a lot of body damage and some clean lefts to the head. Taylor finished strong though, and did more early so it's probably his round. Could be scored for Winky though. There was also a headbutt in this round that effected Winky (nothing serious).
Round 7: Very big round for Taylor. He had Winky hurt pretty bad early, looked to almost be able to knock him down, but Winky eventually recovered. One of the most one-sided rounds of the fight so far, in favor of the champion.
Round 6: Another exciting round, this one goes to Taylor. He hit Winky with some big shots, but really although it sounds repetitive, they're both landing big shots. No one could have expected the fight to turn out this way.
Round 5: This one is probably in Winky Wright's bank. Close though. Winky had Taylor hurt twice in this round it seemed. JT is still swinging heavy with every punch, and isn't using his jab much. A loud fan or popcorn vender needs to get kicked the hell out of this building for shouting some stupid shit the whole fight.
Round 4: Another hard round to score. A vicious round. Taylor finished it stronger and probably stole it in the last 30 seconds. Both guys are consistently landing big shots.
Round 3: This is a very exciting fight, but becoming a hard one to score. Both guys are hitting the other with big punches back and forth. I'd probably give this round to Taylor because Winky seemed hurt at one point, but it could be scored for Winky.
Round 2: Well, this is anything but boring. Both guys came out guns blazing this round. Probably a Winky Wright round. Both had their moments. Wright was landing more accurately, while Taylor had more power. Wright connected more though in this round, so it's probably an even fight going into the third.
Round 1: Round one easily goes to Jermain Taylor. Taylor came out very aggressive and remained so the entire round. He landed a solid overhand right early in the round, and continued to batter Wright's guard, softening it up. Late in the round Taylor landed a hard straight round. He finished the round with two good body punches. Wright did very little the whole round but defend.
