BJ Penn Reported Out Of UFC Fight Night 97 Main Event

According to a report by MMAjunkie, former UFC champion BJ Penn has been forced off the upcoming UFC Fight Night 97 card.

Penn (16-10-2) was scheduled to headline the UFC Fight Pass event from the Philippines opposite Ricardo Lamas. No official word has been made by the promotion regarding Penn’s exit or if a replacement will be found to meet Lamas.

“The Prodigy” was looking to compete again for the first time in over two years after a loss to Frankie Edgar. Penn, a former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion, was originally scheduled to return earlier this year, but the use of an IV caused him to be suspended by the USADA.

UFC Fight Night 97 takes place October 15.
