Casamayor ends Katsidis’ unbeaten run

CABAZON, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) - Joel Casamayor used his experience to his advantage.

Nine years older than his opponent, Casamayor recorded a technical knockout of Michael Katsidis 30 seconds into the 10th round Saturday to claim the WBO interim lightweight title at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa.

The 36-year-old Casamayor (36-3-1, 22 KOs), who knocked down Katsidis twice in the first minute of the opening round, was sent to the canvas himself in the sixth. But the Cuban southpaw, whose WBC interim lightweight belt was not on the line, floored the 27-year-old with a left hook early in the 10th.

Katsidis (23-1) got back to his feet, but referee Jon Schorle stepped in after Casamayor continued to pummel the Australian without a response.
