Ricky Hatton to defend IBO light-welterweight title against Juan Lazcano

MANCHESTER, England (AP) -- Ricky Hatton will be back in the ring to fight Juan Lazcano on May 24 in his first bout since being knocked out by Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Hatton will fight for the IBO light-welterweight title at the City of Manchester Stadium, home of his favorite soccer team Manchester City.

“It’s my intention to come back strong and slam the door on to everyone who thinks I am finished. I’m not quite finished yet,” Hatton said at a news conference Wednesday at the stadium. “I’m not putting a number on how many fights I’ve got but I’m down the home straight of my career.”

Hatton, who joined Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions on Friday, was beaten in 10 rounds by Mayweather in Las Vegas on Dec. 8 after moving up to welterweight.

Hatton (43-1, 31 KOs) had taken the IBF light-welterweight title from Kostya Tszyu.

Lazcano (37-4) has held the lightly regarded WBF and IBA lightweight titles.
