Randy Couture and Fedor Emelianenko were hanging out in Los Angeles this week and according to reports, the two have been discussing ways to possibly make a dream match up between the two happen.
Fedor tells Sherdog:
“We talked a little bit about everything,” Emelianenko said at a luncheon hosted by Affliction Entertainment. “Certainly, one of the main topics was the possibility of having a fight together and the realities that we both face — mainly that he [Couture] faces — and whether the reality of having a fight can happen.”
Couture is tied up in a contractual dispute with Zuffa LLC that has put his fighting career on hold ever since he decided he did not want to fight in the UFC anymore to pursue the clash with Fedor.
“It was an honor to spend a little time with Fedor,” Couture told Sherdog.com Tuesday. “We’re just trying to exhaust every option to make this fight a reality.”
Couture isn't getting any younger that's for sure and Fedor is still the unstoppable monster he has been since his days in PRIDE. In his last fight the Russian dismantled Tim Sylvia in 36 seconds to win the WAMMA Heavyweight title.
As big as a fight as this could be, it is somewhat getting to a point where it may not be in the best interest of Couture to take it. His legacy is set in stone already as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, and despite a 16-8 record Couture has always been one to make his doubters put their foots in their mouths with wins over big names at big times.
Who's to say? Randy could come in and give Fedor the first real loss on his record but the longer it takes to make the fight happen, the more people are going to begin to think Couture just doesn't have a chance. But that is what Couture is good at, showing up when no one thinks he has a chance.
