Dana White Confirms Wanderlei Silva Off UFC 116 Line-Up

MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer

Dana White has officially confirmed that Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva has withdrawn from his bout with Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 116 on July 3rd. Silva cited an accident during a training session which resulted in multiple broken ribs as his reasoning for withdrawing from the bout.

While no official replacement has been named, White confirmed that Akiyama will indeed still fight on the card. A rematch with rising Alan “The Talent” Belcher could answer a lot of questions left in the wake of their first clash at UFC 100 which ended in a somewhat controversial decision win for Akiyama, however White and company may be looking for a greater step up in competition for the popular Japanese combatant.
