Yushin Okami is the last man too hold a win over UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, though it was by way of diaqualification after Silva was DQ'd for using illegal strikes.
Although a win is a win, Okami has never really been given any credit for the win but will have a second chance at UFC 134 in a higher stakes situation when he challenges for the title against Silva.
UFC President is praising the Japanese fighter heading into the bout, going as far as to say Okami is the best fighter ever from Japan:
“In my opinion, Yushin Okami is the best fighter ever to come out of Japan,” UFC President Dana White said. “This guy didn't fight cans and get this built-up, mythological record.”
“Anderson Silva is fighting for his legacy,” White said. “Yushin Okami is fighting for respect.”
“If (Okami) wins this fight, he'll get the credit he finally deserves.”
