After weeks of speculation, a lightweight title fight between Nick Diaz and Eddie Alvarez is now official. The announcement was made last night during EliteXC: Heat on CBS.

The fight will take place on November 8th from Reno, NV and will decide who will be the new champion after the company stripped former champion KJ Noons of the title for not taking a fight with Diaz.

Earlier this week Diaz' manager Cesar Gracie told MMANews.com that the Diaz/Alvarez fight was not yet signed because Elite was still working on the Noons bout but it now appears they were unable to come to terms and the fight with Alvarez is now set.

Alvarez finds himself on a five fight win streak and holds a 15-1 record over all. He also finds himself in the world top ten rankings at lightweight with an astounding performance in the DREAM Light Weight Grand Prix that was cut short before the finals due to injury.

Diaz is also on a win streak of his own since losing to Noons in November 2007. He has won his last three bouts, all by TKO.

The lightweight title bout with also join a middleweight title fight between champion Robbie Lawler and Joey Villasenor on the November 8th card.
