It was a busy day at the EliteXC: Heat weigh in’s today that saw Gina Carano nearly miss weight, Ken Shamrock and Kimbo Slice get into a near brawl on stage and also seen EliteXC Welterweight Champion Jake Shields get into a scuffle with challenger Paul Daley.
MMANews.com caught up with the champ this evening after the weigh in’s and he offered his thoughts on the shoving match,
“He kept telling me he was going to knock me out so I talked a little crap back. Then there was a little pushing and backstage we throw a water bottle or two at each other. It wasn’t anything to big.”
Shields Jiu Jitsu instructor Cesar Gracie also commented on the situation,
“Daley was talking crap to Jake and getting in his face so Jake pushed him and they got into it.”
With the final cut out of the way and the weigh in complete Shields will now get a little R&R in before the title showdown with Daley tomorrow night on CBS. Feeling disrespected the Champ is now more excited for the fight than he normally would be.
“Yeah it has me more excited to go out and fight this guy because of him being so disrespectful.”
Shields, who hasn’t lost in nearly four years, will look to win his eleventh straight fight in his first title defense since winning the title in July. Daley is also on the win streak of his own with six in a row and is the Cage Rage Welterweight Champion in England but although both promotions are under the same ProElite banner, the Cage Rage title is not on the line.
