UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum is known for his incredible ground skills, including submissions of some of the top heavyweights in MMA history.
Saturday night at UFC 198, though, Werdum wants to give the world something to remember when he meets Stipe Miocic.
Werdum was asked about taking Miocic down during a recent interview on “UFC Tonight” to help promote the fight.
“Yes, my Muay Thai. He’s waiting,” Werdum said. “I’ve got a big surprise. Not just takedown him. Just fake, fake, I put him on the ground and finish him or knock him down.”
The Brazilian won the unified title when he submitted Cain Velasquez this past June. He’s also topped Fedor Emelianenko, Travis Browne and Mark Hunt in recent years.
In Miocic, he sees a fighter similar to that of Velasquez, saying “I think the boxing and wrestling are similar. I don’t see Stipe on the ground. I want to see his back on the ground. I’m a black belt in wrestling.”
The bout serves as the main event inside a Brazilian soccer stadium this weekend, meaning over 45,000 fans will be packed into the facility.
“I’m very excited for the fight, in the stadium with 45,000 people, in my country,” he said. “I’ve been training for four months for this, and my mind and body are ok, everything is great. My mom is going to be there and watch the fight in person for the first time in 18 years.”
