Still, Mousasi has defeated better competition than Lombard has. (Mousasi btw was the last one to beat Lombard before the UFC).
So IMO, if he beats Gus, it is very likely that he will get a title shot. Specially if he finish him.
If he does not get an immediate title shot after the win, well maybe he will be fighting someone like Machida.
To me he is just 1-2 wins away from a title shot.
His problem is that his personality is not the one that gives you fast title shots. He is quiet, he does not talk shit. Dana is not going to love that so much. |
Yea I agree for the most part, that if he were to defeat and finish Goose, he will justifiably prove he is not overrated and is a perennial top contender. I think one more solid UFC victory after Goose against a top 10 would solidify him a title shot.
And I don't think his quiet personality would be a reason for Dana to deny him a title shot. Other guys with quiet personalities like Machida, Edgar, Okami, Cain, Mighty Mouse, and I'm sure there are plenty more who have been given title shots by not talking shit to get one.
