I agree that Chael needs to be careful with his takedown attempts, as Bones will be expecting that. In addition to the standing guillotine, I could see Jon using the flying knee if he's feeling adventurous.
We've never really seen Bones work off his back, except for that time when he pulled guard against Rashad. Even if he did get taken down, I wouldn't be surprised if he reversed position and pounded out Sonnen in brutal fashion. Remember, Chael couldn't finish Anderson even though he rode him for 24.5 minutes, and you know how Jon Bones Jones gets down with them elbows once he's on top.
Chael's margin for error is slim to non-existent. |
Yeah I didn't say in the slightest that Chael would KO Jones. I just don't think it's going to be an 'on the feet' fight. I don't think Jones will KO Chael on the feet either. Hence why I said I don't think he's dead meat on the feet as someone else had said. That being said and correct me if I'm wrong, but who in the UFC has finished Anderson? If my recollection serves me right, even the 'big punchers' he's faced haven't been able to do much.
I just think that if Chael can stay away from any submission
and if Jones isn't taking the fight as serious as he has others
then Chael will pose a real threat. John hasn't seemed to take punches too well, when he's been hit in the past. So I'm also curious to see how he handles fighting off his back. I just don't think Jones' standup is going to affect Chael much, I have a feeling Chael is going to be closing the gap too fast. Unless however, Jones throws a perfect timed knee while Chael is going for a takedown.
