With my meek understanding I would say that they are born that way. Just like you don't choose to be gay it is who you are. So these people have always felt like they are the other sex, I guess.
As for the hermaphrodite cases that is when you are born with both male and female genitalia. The parents decide what you will be, and they might make the wrong decision.
I am all for equal rights, but I just don't believe that this lady should be able to fight women. That sounds discriminatory when I type it, b/c I do believe she should have the right to be called a woman, but if she was born a man (not both) then I believe she should not be fighting women, but I reserve to the right to change my mind in the future if a better argument exists.
