Hughes is clearly the more dominant champion, puts more asses in the seats, fights bettter opposition and will remian champion for another 3+ years.

Mark My Words...

I am surprised so many heads still underestimate how good Matt Hughes is.

He would've beat GSP again, yes yes I know, GSP was winning the fight blah blah...

Fact is, Hughes absolutely raped him on the ground, it was an armbar clinic. He baited the other arm and GSP went to block it and got raped, it's really that simple and to think that the outcome would be different this time is just "hope" and nothing more than that. GSP will be champion and very dominant but his time has not come yet and Hughes just gets more and more dominant with every fight.
No mention of BJ in your post, a bit strange i must say. Franklin was already locked in a contract he signed with the UFC a while back which explains his paycheck you pointed out. Undercards have a lot to do with UFC buys also not just the main event. But speaking of main event, Hughes has been around the UFC a lot longer and everybody knows Royce so obviously those are gonna sell. Franklin fighting a TUF guy who was unproven in a real fight isn't the best selling point where as Matt fighting Royce is going to easily sell. Franklin can't help Matt's division is more stacked, that's why he said he'll be champion longer. After he beats Silva there's no one left. Hughes will still have to contend with GSP IF he gets by BJ and he isn't 'raping' either of these guys as was shown in their first encounters. GSP knows the mistake he made and it won't be so easy for Matt to lock an armbar on this time around, i think you're highly underestimating how good GSP is.
