Submissions in a submission wrestling only format and submissions in MMA are two totally different things. I really wish people would quit throwing around ADCC stats when discussing two fighters submission games in the sport of MMA. It's totally not the same thing. It may say who's more skilled at actual submission knowledge, but when punches and elbows are flying around it's a different ballgame completely.
The most important factor about Hughes that has been left out - his will to FIND A WAY to win every fight he's in. Look at the first GSP fight, he couldn't get anything working. On the feet he was losing, GSP had that little duck under takedown that looks so simple when he does it that he's also done to Trigg and Sherk. He was simply being out-classed and blamo a few seconds left in the round and GSP is tapping out. The second Trigg fight, Hughes couldn't have been under worse circumstances and yet he completely reversed the situation, against a really good fighter who was in complete control, and dominated the piss out of him to finish him in the same round.
In a rematch I have to go with GSP. The only way I see him losing is if he makes a mistake and Hughes capitalizes. If it's man versus man and no mistakes are made the better man will win and that person I feel is Georges St. Pierre. How will he win? That's a fucking really tough call to make. I don't know how many rounds this is going or how it's ending, but I see a new Welterweight champion when it's all said and done. UFC is looking at promoting the match in Canada, so they might be expecting similar results.
