I am a fan of both fighters, and I rely on evidence for facts not opinions. So I feel it necessary to point this out to all the people caught up in being Hughes haters or GSP "nut hugers". Hughes is the most dominant UFC champion. And while Georges sometimes looks to display the ability to possibly rival Matt's legacy, he needs to do a hell of a lot more if he wants to fill those shoes. |
I disagree entirely. Obviously this rubber match will stand for a lot in this argument, and IMO we're going to see a very similar TKO-style stoppage just like in the second fight, but Hughes is NOT better than GSP IMO. Yes, he has more WW title defenses than anyone else in the game, and he has a lot more fights than Georges, but look at the difference in the level of competition between then and now... Georges has not only faced tougher opponents than Hughes- some of them the same like Penn and Sherk and Trigg- but he has stopped most of his opponents. The level of competition just wasn't nearly as deep when Hughes was champ... I mean, seriously, weren't two of his defenses against Trigg? Big deal... oh wait he beat Carlos Newton twice... big deal again, and he beat BJ once and looked terrible in the fight and lost to BJ before that... no, my friend, GSP is the real deal, and he will prove it once again on December 29th.
Oh, I forgot to mention his epic title defense against the aging, out of shape Royce Gracie... I bet GSP couldn't beat him... sarcasm.
