Some of those crazy assholes actually had me wondering if PRIDE had the premier fighters after all. They were so sure that they would bet their life on it.
My theory is that part of the reason PRIDE appeared to be so much better is because of the rules and the ora that PRIDE has as, basically being Vale Tudo with tiny gloves (with a few exceptions). Shit yeah it was fun to watch some of the bigger stars beat up on small Japanese guys, but comparing PRIDE to UFC was like comparing apples to oranges. The fights were admittedly more exciting on average than UFC, at least in PRIDE's last half (5 yrs).
Now that the majority of PRIDE fighters are coming into the UFC and stinking up the joint, you know that unfamiliarity with the cage and the UFC in general has SOMETHING to do with it. But that cannot be everything. PRIDE fighters are generally overrated. Put that back in a ring with less rules (except the elbows) and judge the fights on finishing the fight and not a point system like boxing, give yellow cards, they would be beating the fuck out of eachother.
R.I.P. PRIDE and it's rules. US sanctioning bodies will never allow what we really want to see.
