A fighter needs a certain amount of distain for other fighters to even get into this sport. They need a killer instint to to go in there and give it their all.

Couldn't disagree more with every single point you're making...
I don't need shit talking or hype to enjoy a fight, never have... I became a ufc fan by blindly looking up older mma fights on the internet with having no idea who was who or what had been said prior... the fact that they could shake hands or embrace one another after a fight was a big part of making me a fan (Randleman vs Fedor comes to mind).
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not naive enough to think that hatred and stupidity doesn't sell fights, it does... and has in boxing for a long time and will continue to do so...
But this fan can do without it... and I don't see it as a necessary evil either... some fighters just handle their business and keep it professional... it's not a matter of hating the guy or not...
Those usually happen to be the best fighters in their divisions coincidentally...
