I feel that there is point fighting in MMA (not like Karate). Fighters that are in the fight to edge out a decision via points. That to me is point fighting, case and point, Swick in the DL fight at UFC 63, he was not trying to end the fight, he was trying to rack up points and then hold on for a decision victory.
Many People would consider Coleman, Rashad, Arona, etc. point fighters but really they are not point fighting, they are trying to win the fight the entire time (or most of it at least) it just happens to be that wrestling is their background or grappling and they do not have that deadly striking power or accuracy so they must rely on their roots to win fights.
I don't bash that as much as strikers who are point fighting to edge out a win.
Hominick vs Gurgel. This and the Swick DL fight at UFC 63 are the 2 as of late that standout most to me of point fighting wins.
