I always enjoy Joe Rogans commentary. For one it's a celebrity. For two it's a celebrity who knows the sport as well as any "expert" or "insider" out there. For three he actually trains with all of the best fighters from time to time, even sporting black eyes on the job. For four, someone already said it - he's awesome at injecting a shot of excitement into any fight he's calling. And five, someone also pointed it out - it's a gigantic step above the days of wrestler-mark Blatnik and monotone - Osbourne.
If we're going to complain about anyone on the UFC broadcast team, I'd say point the finger at Mike Goldberg. He's fake as hell for one, just straight out phony. But no more than your typical straight announcer. Still, I hate those kind. Stephen Quadros and the late Ryan Bennett are more my style. They keep things together like a host should, but they don't get phony about it like Mike Goldberg or good god like Mauro Renallo. Bas Rutten is good for what he does, but without a good host keeping things in order he'd just be a guy making whacky comments, Al Pacino voice impressions, and of course an educated explanation of the action going on in the ring. But yeah the perfect team will always be Quadros and Rutten. No duo will ever touch the chemistry or flow they had for each and every show I've heard them call.
