Anderson Silva has shown pretty average takedown defence in his fights. That may work against someone like a Travis Lutter who has next to no conditioning, but against a guy like BJ Penn, Anderson Silva would be in trouble. BJ Penn would take him down and submit him quickly. Watch what Travis Lutter did to him when he was out of shape and overweight, now imagine what an in shape and focused BJ Penn would do to him. Anderson Silva is a great fighter, but against GSP, Penn, and possibly even Hughes he'd get beat down.
