I understand the guy didn't make weight because he was hurt and there probably isn't another guy at 170 who deserves it more than him after Fitch, but I don't see how you can award him after not making weight. Maybe one more win to erase the missing weight but it sets a bad precedent IMO to get a shot after missing weight. Sprained ankle or not, that ankle didn't seem to bother him unloading that knee. He did look very impressive nonetheless so I guess we'll see what happens.
We've seen guys do crazier things to their bodies while injured, like Rich Franklin continuing to beat on Loiseau after he busted his hand up, and whatever other injuries he sustained.

I don't think it sets a negative precedent. Dana and the UFC brass knew even before the weigh-ins that Alves wasn't going to make weight, and they also knew the reason why.

Either way, the soonest Alves will see a title shot is NYE; if the rumored Penn/GSP rematch goes ahead then, however, it'll be almost a year.
