It just seems to me that any athlete today that has a little backbone and some business sense gets clobbered by management and they get intentionally portrayed poorly in the press.
Goldberg was no great wrestler (or actor either...lol)...but when he wanted a little control of how he was portrayed on the air and demanded a fair share of merchandising...he got dumped on in the old wcw and again in the wwe.
Lots of pro wrestlers have been hosed by Vince for years and have wound up crippled, broke, or dead.
Tito had the same thing happen to him in the ufc. Back when Dana was his and Chuck's manager in the old UFC...he was promised that he wouldn't ever have to fight Chuck because they were very good friends and trained together so much they were like family. When the old ufc did good...they shared their good fortune with the guys that were working hard to bring in the fans and make everyone money.
Along came new owners, Dana moved up the corporate ladder handing off Tito and Chuck's management to someone else...and that promise was suddenly gone...and so was the perks.
So when the ufc started making more money...Tito demanded a piece of the profits he had worked his butt off for and refused to fight Chuck...expecting the ufc and Dana to be fair. Then he got dumped on.
Other fighters have gotten the same treatment in other MMA organizations too.
It is obvious that owners and management see these athletes as property or just another commodity...and really don't give a damn about their careers, their families, or their futures.
They leave people no other choice but to be backstabbing "yes-men", to play some rough backstage and locker room politics, to hide injuries and take unnecessary risks, and to use whatever they can get away with to stay in the spotlight and compete.
And if any of them try to stick up for themselves...they get screwed out of everthing they have worked hard for and forced out.
Maybe they should all get together and form a union or something...because it is ridiculous how crappy they get treated.
