I totally agree with your point of view. Steroids is just a tiny part of your training regiment. Good diet, enough rest, hard training, other legal supplements play more crucial roles. You do everything right this way year after year until you get "stuck" in terms of getting stronger. That's when you take some roids to break through the natural barrier. Taking roids wouldn't make your training easy. It will make the training much tougher because when you're on roids, you really have to work out insanely hard to gain as much muscle mass as you could in the shortest period of time. Discomfort and pain level during training would be much more intense and a possibilty of serious injuries is always there. It's so easy to say Coleman takes roids. Yeah Coleman maybe did take roids;he thought trough the risk of taking roids, dealt with all side effects of roids and made intelligent decisions about taking roids and worked his ass off while he' was on roids. That's why he's that good. Besides even old school martial artist like Masahiko Kimura(Judo Legend) was drinking the blood of Japanese turtle on a regular basis to make him stronger. I think turtle blood should be considered "performace enhancer" as well.
