My own interpretation of what happened was this - Oliveira has an extremely, extremely active game from his back, he was working for triangles and all sorts of submissions from his back and was extremely aggressive. I think this was his downfall, he partly underestimated Miller's ground game in so far as he was not concerned with his submission defence and what opportunities he was affording Miller when he was working unsuccessfully for submission. I think this is why Oliveira was so surprised when he got caught, because he genuinely didn't see it coming because he wasn't that concerned. I don't think it's cocky, I just think it was, as he said, a silly mistake.
I'm sure Oliveira will come back stronger in the next fight and more aware of the holes in his BJJ game. I can't wait to see him fight again, I love watching his fluid BJJ and it's a shame the fight ended so early and we didn't get to see more.
