The more I think about it the more the whole marijuana issue in mma seems fucked up..
Not necessarily in the Diaz case in particular (because some people are waaay to emotional about it still...) but more so in general
People keep talking about whether or not weed is a performance enhancing drug (eg. lessens pain during a fight) and does it help if your high during a fight. Yet, the athletic commission utilizes a piss test to test for the dope, a piss test cannot determine levels of impairment or if one is intoxicated at that time. They can only confirm, yes, marijuana is in the system sometime with in the last month or whatever.
So if weed being a performance enhancing drug is the concern and the commissions do not want fighters competing while high should they not use a blood test? A blood test can much more accurately determine thc levels and tell if a person is currently under the influence.
If you decide not to use the blood test and instead use the blood test, marijuana being a PED should be removed from the discussion as that is not what they are being tested for. If marijuana is considered a PED for the actual training and that is the concern then maybe it makes sense.
It seems kind of stupid the UFC / Dana clearly knew Diaz was and does blaze. UFC staff witnessed Diaz blazing during the primetime shows but yet it was all cool as long as he passed the tests come fight night... That would tell me fighters smoking while not fighting and training should not be a big concern and therefore a piss test is again useless.
Anyways just my two cents, this was talked about on the mmashow the other day and had me thinking how fuck ass backwards the system actually is.
