The issue is the UFC really can't wait around to see what happens. They need to promote the event and they need a main event in order to do that. Overeem's whole thing might not be figured out until late April or early May.
Its not just Diaz they did this too as well. They have done it to Evans in the past and Fitch had to win several number 1 contender matches and never got his title shot.
