Shane Roller retires after UFC on FX 5 loss - MMA Fighting

Quote:
Shane Roller has announced his intention to retire from mixed martial arts following his UFC on FX 5 loss to Jacob Volkmann last Friday night.

"Looks like I'm hanging up the gloves for good," he tweeted on Monday. "It was fun, but time to move on. Sucks that it ended like that. Now starting the next chapter!!"

Roller lost via submission at 2:38 of the first round, his fourth defeat in his last five bouts

The UFC lightweight was a three-time collegiate All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State University who transitioned into MMA as part of Team Takedown, a group of decorated former amateur wrestlers that included Johny Hendricks and Jake Rosholt.

The 33-year-old Roller had an inconsistent career that spanned just over five years. He was signed to the Zuffa-owned WEC within just over one year of his MMA debut and won his first two fights there until losing to Ben Henderson. He also owns victories over respected veterans like Jamie Varner, Danny Castillo and Thiago Tavares.

On the flip side, Roller suffered losses to Anthony Pettis, Melvin Guillard, T.J. Grant and Michael Johnson.

With his UFC on FX 5 defeat, he ends his career with a record of 11-7.
