the kicks are to the thigh, not the knee. they are not dirty, if you think they are dirty because of the potential for injury......there are many things that are legal and just as dangerous, paul haris has caused much more damage with his heel hooks than john has with that kick technique.
its a fight, if you dont like the technique, learn to avoid or counter it, its not like he is poking him in the eye or something.
