If indeed he is taking the year off then the UFC needs to get down to the bottom of his intentions. If he has no intention of defending the middleweight title going forward then they need to talk him into publicly vacating it or set up an interm title (Even though, I despise them). They already have the brackets set up for a mini tournament, just need to make it official. The optics of all scenarios are terrible but stripping him, I feel, is the worst. No matter what, the new middleweight champion is going to be considered the most neutered paper champion in the history of the UFC having not beaten Silva for it. Stripping the greatest fighter in the history the UFC would be a terrible business decision and will serve to only weaken the perception of the new champ, Silva and the UFC. Nobody wins in that scenario.

Here's some hypothetical thoughts for you guys: If they create an interm middleweight champion does Chael get an automatic title shot after losing to Jones?
