Anderson Silva Doesn’t Want Chris Weidman Fight

Anderson Silva is coming off a dominating TKO win over Stephan Bonnar. It was a bout that was controlled by Silva, which was the obvious prediction for many MMA fans. With this victory, many have been wondering on what awaits the greatest fighter to ever compete inside the UFC.
Chris Weidman seems like the most logical opponent for Anderson at middleweight, but Silva has went on record saying that he isn’t interested in such a fight.
In his UFC Post-Fight Press Conference in Brazil, Anderson went on to say, “I think all athletes in this division will get their opportunity in going for the title. I don’t have any intention of fighting with him (Wiedman). I still think he has a lot to do in the UFC. I am in a comfortable position and I am no longer a child, I am 37 years old, he’s a kid that is starting. Obviously, this might happen, but, I have two fights on my contract and I think one of them will be with St. Pierre and I don’t really have an intention in fighting with him (Weidman) because I’m not a fool. I’m already an oldie, you know?”
Is Anderson simply being nice to Weidman by saying he is too old to face the young and hungry prospect in Chris Weidman? Maybe, but Silva has only two fights left on his contract, and it appears that he wants marquee fights that will cement his status as being the best mixed martial artists to ever compete in this sport.
Weidman would definitely present problems for Silva in terms of wrestling and jiu jitsu, but Silva wants big names. He believes Weidman needs to build his name up with a couple more fights before he even considers fighting for the belt. Will Weidman ever face Silva before he hangs up the gloves? Stay tuned!
