For the record, I do not disagree with the idea that Anderson has become a diva nor would I defend him for taking the year off and basically holding the middleweight title hostage. I do recognize that Anderson is a pretty special, one of a kind talent though. Somebody I'm willing to throw down cold hard cash to watch. As such, I have a bit more patience in dealing with the diva in him. I don't blame him for being uninterested with fighting a relatively unknown fighter in Chris Weidman. In my opinion, Chris has not been properly promoted by the UFC as I think they were caught a little off guard with his performance against Munoz. They missed out on an opportunity to showcase him on the biggest fight card of the year that was UFC 148 and instead buried him on the limited audience of FuelTV. He needs another fight or two to build his name to the point where he's viewed as the number one contender by more than just the internet mma fan boys. If by ducking Weidman, you mean to say Anderson is uninterested in fighting him, fine. If you are inferring that Anderson is afraid to face Weidman, then I can't disagree with you more. |
Well said and hell if I was Silva I wouldn't care too much for Weidman until I see him beat another high caliber talent that would put his name on the map like Vitor, Sonnen, Henderson hell even Chael.
Beating a raggedy ass Munoz and having less fights than Silva has title defenses doesn't impress me. He has some quality wins but he hasn't taken the long road and paid his dues like the other names mentioned. Hell Tim Boestch has a better claim to being the number 1 contender than Weidman does based on his resume and experience alone.
Atleast Tim has had over 20 fights but still not even he has had to fight guys like Stann, Henderson and Sonnen. I believe that is something that should be worth mentioning when you talk about Tim or Weidman.
Neither of these two have beaten the whose who of the mw division. Its my suspicion that people just want to see Silva fight another wrestler with avg strinking. They have this belief that only a wrestler can beat Silva and its rather obvious when you look at a compilation of the comments here on this board.
If Silva and Weidman ever did fight I promise you they would look for the next available wrestler before demanding he move up a weight class or two to fight Jones or Cain V.
That is how much Silva/Soares (since some can't distinguis the two) are hated. I would put money down that even if Silva fought and beat Weidman people here wouldn't give him his props. Instead they would say shit like, "about time he stopped ducking him".
To me the man is in a "catch 22" when it comes to the opinions of his detractors. It's damn if he does or damn if he doesn't.
