The undercard fighters are no different then the guys who have to earn their way into any other pro league. They start out at the bottom of the pay scale and there are hard ships. That third string kicker can blow out his knee an be done with football forever just as easily as a fighter being hurt. They all run the risk of hurting themselves and potentially never making big money. They do it because that is what they want to do and they don't have a problem earning their way up.
Also define scrapping by because we all know they make more then 5k for a UFC fight by the time it's all said and done.
