Yeah, Condit didn't play it safe against Diaz at all. Neither did Jon Fitch for all those years he was a top 5 contender. Neither does GSP.
Originally the sport of MMA was designed to determine who the best martial artist was not who was best at winning decisions. Diaz fights a lot like the pioneers of the sport. Some of the other guys you mentioned do as well, but lets not pretend the big money hasn't lead to a lot of conservative style changes.
