I'm sure I'll get some stick for being a Bisping nuthugger for this post, and while I am a fan of Bisping, I like to think I'm fairly impartial and objective (I'd rather be honest with myself than blindly defend a particular fighter for the sake of 'fandom'). Also, as another disclaimer I'd just like to make it very clear I'm a big Belfort fan as well.

Anyway, I do have to say that yes, Bisping's knee to a downed Jorge was illegal, no doubt about it. It was an extremely emotionally-charged fight, and while this doesn't excuse it, it does go some way to explaining how a shot like that can be landed in the heat of the moment one fighter is standing and the other is making his way back to his feet. It occurred in a kind of scramble in so far as the fighters had not settled into a position, and were mid-transition.

But I think that if we look back at the careers of Bisping and Belfort we'd have to say that Belfort is one fighter that has been noted in the past - and on numerous occasions in at least two fights - for landing shots to the back of downed opponents. Furthermore, these shots have not just been significant, but they have ended the fight.

I just think we all need to look at the facts and try to look at the situation as objectively as possible, not blindly lean on the side of our chosen fighter.
