Hector Lombard discloses serious injury pre-UFC debut

Posted by J. Yayo Hernandez on Aug 9, 2012 in MMA, UFC

UFC middleweight Hector Lombard who lost in his promotional debut at UFC 148 against Tim Boetsch has released some new information about the circumstances surrounding his loss. Initially heard on The Roman Show and then followed up by Lombard’s Facebook, the fighter has stated he suffered a fractured sternum during training which he was unaware of until after the bout took place.

On The Roman Show, Lombard sounding as though he is catching his breath, explained it thusly:

“After the fight, I told myself something is not right here,” he said in the interview. “The next day, I told my fiancée to set an appointment cause something wasn’t right especially after my terrible performance.” He said during training, he had constant cough, but thought he had the flu. At one point he felt he was going to have a heart attack.

“After the fight I thought my career was over because I thought I had heart problems,” he said. The injury then was news to him. “I never knew about that. The sternum stops the breathing,” he said. “Doctors told me ‘I don’t know how you get around cause people don’t walk’.”He went to doctors in Canada and Tampa, Fl, where he had x-rays and an MRI, where doctors told him he needed to rest before he started training again. “It’s going to take like six weeks until I start training,” he said. “I am going to rest.”

Lombard went on to say that if he would have known of the injury, he would not have fought Boetsch.

Lombard then took to Facebook and posted the following message to his fans:

“I want to let all my fans know. I fought mu last fight injured. i wasnt 100% sure but i when to the doctors… I have a fracture sternum with a torn cartilage, i got this injure in training for my fight with Tim Boetsch. I have to be out of training for 6weeks i should never have fought like that, but i didnt want to let my fans and the UFC down, love you all.”
Take it for what it's worth, but I don't think Hector is the type to get "jitters", he didn't look right in that fight and I don't think we'll likely see him perform that badly again. So I'm kinda inclined to believe he's telling the truth....still he could KO'd Boetch and it would have been all academic....

"I don't call the fighting in my films 'violent', I call it 'action'. An action film borders between fantasy and reality. If I were to be completely realistic in my films, you would call me a violent, bloody man. I would simply destroy my opponent by tearing his guts out. I wouldn't do it so artistically." ~Bruce Lee
