If it is a choke, or an ineffective submission... yeah.. don't tap... fight your way out... I am ALL for it.

But when it is an armbar, kneebar, kimura.. any type of real lock... just tap.. no reason to be sidelined for months over any competition...

You lose the match, you go back, and you are the better man next time.. breaking a limb ends up in you losing progress/time.

The guy was an idiot for tapping, the other guy is an idiot for notrecognizing the guy was too stupid to tap, and the judge was totally fucking stupid for not stopping it before it got that far.

It reminds of me of Chael Sonnen trapped in Paulo Filho's armbar. He may not have given up, but he was in deep shit. The ref needs to protect fighters who are not intelligent enough to defend themselves.

Yeah, in BJJ the refs will call fights if they think the submission attempt is getting too dangerous... it's different with the gi since your other arm can get caught up in your gi. You can't really blame the guy attempting th submission, but unless you are fighting a World Championship it's a dick move to push a sub to the point of break a limb unless it's on accident. This could have been avoided by all parties.

I'm late on this, but anyway - The POP! is enough to lose your lunch over. It's why I remembered this thread a week later...

nasty.
ref should have stopped it, or the stupid kid should have tapped, he wasn't going anywhere.
