Thoughts about TUF 3 Finale

On June 24, 2006 I fought at that Hard Rock Hotel and Casino against Michael Bisping for the TUF 3 Light Heavyweight six figure contract. I lost, that happens. Michael was a better fighter on that day. I brought the skills I had to the table on that day and he brought his. His skills were deeper than my own but I left it all on the mat. Overall, I am happy with the fight. I made a few mistakes but I did some stuff right as well.

I wasn't too pleased with the pre fight footage shown, saying how much "I hate" Bisping, etc. I was answering questions about how I would build a fire and fuel it for this fight, and what I would think about to build up anger for this fight. Unfortunately, I was caught a bit by "the edit monster" and I feel the interview poorly represented what I was trying to say. True, Bisping and I had words leading up to the fight, but that was simply pre fight BS. Once the fight is over, win or lose all animosity is gone. I want to say that I have no ill will toward Bisping, his country, his accent or his camp. In fact during the pre fight words he and I had in the octagon, we both shook hands and agreed it was all hype for the fight. The illegal knee to the face rattled me quite a bit as I couldn't even figure out what happened to my cornermen, and the poke to the eye was unfortunate as well. Some things just didn't go my way that night. Regardless, he came in with a deeper skill set than me and won, and I congratulate him for that.

I am completely confident in my ability to drop weight classes. 205lbs was just a pit stop for me as I wanted to take the opportunity to compete on the TUF 3 show. It was an awesome experience. I will keep working part time at night to leave my days open for training. Which was my immediate plan regardless of how the Finale turned out.

I want to say Thanks to everyone who supported me during the show and who tuned in to watch the finale. Sorry I couldn't bring it home. Just making it to the finals is something I'm proud of. I'm happy with my overall performance on the TUF 3 show, especially knowing that I had only a few months training at Team Quest before the show. I am confident that with more training from them I will only improve. They are an excellent camp and I want to represent them well. If you were a fan of mine on the show because of my heart then I don't think you will be disappointed in my performance in the Finale, as I gave it my all. I will continue to improve my game and you can look for me leaner and meaner in a lower weight class.

Thank You to Warrior Wear, Protech Mouthguards, and Xyience.

Never Quit,
Josh "Bring The Pain" Haynes

Well at least he addressed the stuff about him hating Bisping so much.

I really wanted him to lose badly after what I heard him say about Bisping like all the hate shit, I was like what a prick.

thanks for the post anthony

I like what he said, addressing everything...I understand what he means, people editing probably were just looking for something to spark the hype

again thanks for the post

Yeah, i figured it had to be in the editing cos he didn't seem that way during the show. This happens a lot, even in the show it had Bisping constantly whining about Matt. He may have said a few things but if that's all the show transmits it can look pretty bad.

The editing in pre-fight interviews, the dodgy decisions by the judges, and all this glory rubbish by saying how this person has heart and how all the fighters hype their matches to be like another Gatti and Ward. Before they just fought and that was it plain and simple now it's all propaganda, for how cool this guy is or how nice this guy is or how their fight was one for the ages.

I can agree with that...but the propaganda makes money...and money makes them happy and we keep on watching

Yeah, to be honest I love fights with a grudge much more than 2 fighters kissing each others asses.

How many more people are gonna watch UFC61 cos of Tito's feud with Ken.

I know in reality Ken's not much of a match for Tito (although Tito's injury could make a difference), but the more I see the bitching between the 2 the more excited I'm getting to see the fight.

Even if the feud is hollywood BS, it sells.

At the finale I swore they said it was because of his training with matt hamil and the rest of the guys up at big bear.

I found this interview through google.

The following is a small excerpt from an interview with Dean Lister (jiu jitsu coach on Team Ortiz on TUF 3, debuting in UFC on 5/27 against Alessio Sakara) conducted by the ADCC News web team:

ADCC: You were picked to teach jiu-jitsu by Coach Tito Ortiz. Can you explain your relationship with Ortiz?

DEAN LISTER: Me and Tito have been friends for a while. He told me he wanted the best submission guy around with the best teaching style so he chose me. He also knows he can trust me and I am a training partner so we worked out a lot while filming the show. We are basically good friends. Also his knee, it is my fault. I kept it a secret and he still wanted to fight but I had a single leg on him and he was trying to escape the take down, twisting his knee, a freak accident but real. Anyhow, just in case anyone wanted to know.

If tore his ligaments in his knee, which pretty much gives him zero mobility. Same injury (actually slightly worse) than Shamrocks in their first fight. However he's had a few months to recover & for all we know he could be 100% come fight night.

If it was as bad as he said I would doubt it's 100%, but I still give him to kick Shamrocks ass into the Happy Hills retirement home!

no blasting.I'm sorry I miss understood you.My mistake.Tito is nothing like Tank.Tank would take a fight on a days notice and fight for free while Tito ducks fights. The Haynes/Tank is a much better comparison.I can see how you could make that comparison. They're both brawlers and they both give it all they got.

Sure, he made it all the way to the finals...heart and courage cannot work all the time. You have to have talent and fighting skills. Josh Haynes will not go anywhere in the UFC unless he trains hard and loose alot of weight. He got lucky against Jesse coz' Jesse is young and unexperienced...he got pummeled in the 1st round then on the 2nd round Jesse's unexperienced got the best of him. Wait til' he faces a big light heavyweight names like Babalu Sobral, Forrest Griffin, Rashard Evans, Keith Jardins and of course Chuck Liddel. His heart and courage will not work on them...maybe with someone whose unexperienced like Jesse or Mike Nickels. Josh Haynes is a little better than that bum Kristian Rothaermel. But, I could care less about those 2 bumbling idiots.

Didn't Josh mention dropping down to middleweight? I think that the only way on the show was to fight at Light Heavy. Still, that would be a tough division for him with the likes of Franklin, and now Silva. He's gonna have to train with high caliber fighters and fight them to get to the top.

Middleweight. He started at 330 pounds and got down low enough to cut weight to make it to 205. We'll see if he can get down to 185. But I doubt we'll see him go lower as with his skills, or lack of skills, he would get eaten alive by the welterweights.

Give the guy his props. He'll never be a World Champion. I hope no one tells him that though. He's earning an honest living by working hard and having fun doing it. He made the best of an opportunity and he should milk whatever marketability he earned from making it to the finals to continue to make a living. I agree with what you said about the other guys though. They better not quit their day jobs...

Haynes may not have tons of natural talent, but I think if he drops down to 185, he can be quite competitive. He's strong and will probably be pretty quick at 185. Combine that with heart and determination, and I think he could make a great middleweight.
