Clay Guida Vs. Gray Maynard Added To UFC 145 - FightLine.com (http://www.fightline.com/fl/news/2011/1228/546767/dana-white/)

UFC president Dana White announced today that top-tier lightweight contenders Gray Maynard and Clay Guida will be squaring off on the impending UFC 145 fight card; White announced the fight via Twitter.
Gray Maynard has, on two separate occasions, been no more than a punch or two away from capturing the UFC lightweight title from Frankie Edgar - at UFC 125 in the beginning of this year and again at UFC 136 this past October. Their first meeting ended in a draw and their second with Edgar rallying to score a fourth-round knockout. Now, Maynard has set out to improve himself as an overall martial artist while working his way back to the belt. An alum of The Ultimate Fighter 5 and owner of a 10-1-1 record, Maynard is considered to be one of the best lightweights in the world.

While he hasn't quite made it to a title fight yet, perennial contender Clay Guida has been knocking on the door for a long time. After setting up a four-fight win streak that included victories over Anthony Pettis and Takanori Gomi, Guida fell short in a battle for contendership against former WEC lightweight champ Benson Henderson. In a similar position to Maynard, 29-12 Clay Guida has gone back to the drawing board in order to ready himself for another run at the title.

UFC 145 will take place on March 24 of next year at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Great match up!!! Glad they are giving Clay another chance at a top name. Will always cheer for Guida! Please make this the main event so it can be a 5 rounder!

Oh hell yes!!

this is going to be a fast paced non stop war

but if Guida could pull it off, would that warrant a #1 contender match, or a title shot?

Sorry Guida, I love you as a fighter but I think Gray takes this

It was a troll guys. Bunch of news sites didn't bother to check the twitter source. It was a guy named "DaanaWhite" who tweeted it.

Here was the "source" http://twitter.com/daanawhite

great match up but i doubt clay can out wrestle maynard and while i think stand up skill is pretty equal between the two gray is much more powerful with his punches. i'll be rootin for clay but i think maynard has this all day long

maybe Dana should look into making that possible..? Awesome fight and even tho it was a troll at least he announced a sensible match up lol.

I dont think even if it was true, that is that great of a fight.

I like Clay a lot but, Gray is huge, and can outwrestle Clay all day long. I just can't see Clay stuffing that shot that Gray has.

Grey by UD all day long

Screw it. People should twitter bomb Dana into making this fight

12-29-2011, 05:52 PM

Yea Guida said it was a spammer on Twitter last night as well. Too bad it would have been a great fight. However I think I would like to see Guida fight the Cowboy/Diaz winner.
