Maskaev vs. Peter on Feb 2 Maskaev-Peter on Feb. 2! The fight for the WBC heavyweight world championship between world champion Oleg Maskaev and interim world champion Samuel Peter will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on February 2, 2008, as per the official statement of Don King Productions. The promotion rights for this fight were won by Don King Productions with an offer of $3,107,000.00, of which 55% will be for Maskaev and 45% for Samuel Peter. This title bout had originally been scheduled for October 6 at Madison Square Garden, but it was postponed due to Oleg Maskaev’s injury, who had been inactive for the previous 10 months. The WBC elected Samuel Peter as interim champion after his two victories over James Toney in final eliminations bouts. Peter defended the title with a decision victory over Jameel McCline, who had been approved as a voluntary challenger to save the date an unfreeze the title. The winner and undisputed WBC heavyweight champion must defend next against the WBC Emeritus Champion Vitali Klitschko, which shall be ratified at the 45th Convention to be held in Manila, Philippines, from November 11-17. Just so ya know. |
For the sake of boxing and the heavyweight division, Samuel Peter must vanquish both of them. He absolutely must. |

if Peter shows up like he did against Jameel is he going to get knocked out |

You have to remember that reach/height advantage McCline had over Peter, and he does have great power. Personally, I don't think Peter could ever beat someone like Valuev, Ruslan Chagaev, hell I don't think he could beat David Tua now that I think about it. He hasn't fought anybody besides Wlad, and Toney, and we all no Toney is not a true HW. Peters style looks nice, but he hasn't really proved anything to be honest. He got praise for almost beating Wlad, something 2 cans have done. I am not impressed, anymore. He's good, but not the best in the division. |
I think Peter will have too much power for Maskaev but I do agree Peter looked a little different against McCline. McCline does step up and fight very well sometimes like he did against Byrd but then he has performances like he did against Calvin Brock where you have to laugh him off. I think Peter will come in hungry for this one and knock out Maskaev in 8-9 rounds. I don't think he'll be able to beat the younger Klitchsko if he gets another chance though. Peter will be controlled by the jab and have his moments but would probably lose a 12 round decision to him again. |

I think if Vitali isn't fucked up, Peter is going to have one hell of a time with him, because he is tall, hits hard, an has good hands. With what Jameel was doing to him, i think Vitali will knock him out around 6th or 7th round. Also i think when him a Wlad meet up again, he is going to be in some trouble this time. I think the rematch will be more one sided ending in a knock out. I am not underestimating Jameel, he is a hot an cold fighter. But i think Maskaev will have to much power for him, even though he isn't the best, he does have good power an thats something Peter should be worried about. Speaking of Tua what the fuck happen to him, is he still fighting, i heard he was going to come back but really haven't heard anything about him. Harlem or Afro or anyone with boxing knowledge what is up with Joe Messi, the guy is undefeated an have seen a couple of his fights. What is his deal, why no title shot yet. |
I can answer the Joe Mesi question. He just got his license back like last year, and he's been fighting nothing but cans since he's come back. That's why he hasn't gotten a title shot. He hasn't earned it yet, undefeated or not. Tua is still fighting too, but he's sort of the same situation as Mesi. He's been fighting nothing but cans since he launched his comeback, but because he's a bigger name than Mesi, he has a better shot at landing a title fight. As for Peter/Maskaev, Maskaev doesn't have the best chin either, his chin is worse than Peter's actually, which is actually pretty good. If you're taking bombs from Wlad for an entire fight, it has to be. McCline has good power when he's motivated, which is why Peter got rocked there. But as for chins and power, I think Maskaev has more to worry about. Regardless of what you think Peter's chin is like, you still don't want to brawl with a guy with concussive power like his. Peter's power is significantly better than Maskaev's. |
