| Was 2007 the Greatest in Boxing History?
It was a great year for the sport. Just look:
Mayweather/DeLa Hoya
Mayweather/Hatton
Mosley/Cotto
Pavlik/Taylor
Calzaghe/Taylor
Mayorga/Vargas (Meaningless but entertaining)
Pacquiao/Barrera
Morales/Diaz
Hopkins/Wright
Margarito/Williams
Cotto/Judah
Taylor/Spinks
The list goes on. What do you think?

1980's to me (esp 1987), day's of young Tyson, Hugler, Hitman, Leonard, the return of Foreman and others.
2007 is also the geat year for Boxing, but not as popular and as exciting way back in the 80's

This is the best year in boxing that I have been old enough to enjoy greatly.

2007 was the richest year in boxing, not necessarily the greatest. It might not even be the best year of this decade, to be honest...try 2000 on for size:
Shane Mosley/Oscar de la Hoya I- Fight of the Year candidate
Felix Trinidad/Fernando Vargas- Fight of the Year candidate
Erik Morales/Marco Antonio Barrera- Fight of the Year
The three best fights of this year were both Israel Vasquez/Rafael Marquez fights and probably Kelly Pavlik/Jermain Taylor, and with the exception of Izzy/Rafa II, they don't touch the absolute greatness of the three fights above. To top that off, 2000 made superstars out of Mosley, Morales, and Barrera.
1982 would have been the best year with these fights:
Salvador Sanchez/Azumah Nelson
Aaron Pryor/Alexis Arguello I
Wilfredo Gomez/Lupe Pintor
Bobby Chacon/Rafael Limon IV
Larry Holmes/Gerry Cooney (despite the hype, it was still a great fight)
Rafael Limon/Rolando Navarrete (underrated classic)
Matter of fact, the only two things that have put a damper on the greatness of '82 was the death of Salvador Sanchez in car accident (an eerie parallel this year with the death of Diego Corrales in a motorcycle accident), and of course, the tragedy that happened in the Ray Mancini/Duk Koo Kim fight (which by itself was a FOTY type of fight).

I agree, 2000 was great. However, I think 2007 marks a year that changes a lot about boxing. It's the year where champs and contenders sucked it up and fought each other. A year where fighters took the initiative to fight the top guys and breathed some new interest into the sport. Those types of things make it an absolutely remarkable year in boxing IMO.
