| Hatton turns down fight with Oscar Boxing News 24 hours/day -- the #1 resource in boxing -- following Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray, Oscar De La Hoya and all your boxing favorites Quote: |
IBO 140lb champion Ricky Hatton will not step in for retired Floyd Mayweather in a big money bout against his promoter Oscar de la Hoya in September. Hatton's father and business manager told BBC Sport that "The Hitman" is focused on a November fight with IBF jr welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi. Other names bandied about in the media as Oscar's new opponent include Winky Wright and the winner between Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito. An announcement is expected this week from Golden Boy regarding Oscar's plans. Team Hatton, meanwhile, is relishing the possibility of a clash with Manny Pacquiao, should he win the WBC 135lb crown against David Diaz.

What is he thinking?? Hmmmm, Oscar or Malignaggi...who should I fight? That's a real tough one.

I want to see dlh vs. cotto badly but not as bad as mayweather vs. cotto. Does anyone know what happened to the rumor that dlh's wife wouldnt let him fight a latino fighter lol.

I think Hatton and his management is scared of another KO. Paul is easier to hit and has absolutely no power. That spells for a much easier fight!
I call shenanigans!
BTW, DLH would beat the living shit outta Hatton!

But as to Hmmmm, Oscar or Malignaggi...who should I fight? That's a real tough one. Well, it's not as tough as it seems, honestly. The real question is, "Hmmmm, do I lose to Oscar or do I win versus Malignaggi..."
I would love to see Hatton vs. Pacquiao though. So, kinda happy this isn't happening. Besides, I think both Oscar and Hatton still have enough fights in'em to make that match up happen. I didn't say enough in them to be successful, but enough paydays you know?
Wish Floyd wouldn't have, "Retired," though.

I think Cotto has the best chance of beating PBF over anyone. | Can I get a reasoning on this one?

I think Hatton knows now that there's no reason to go up to 147 anymore, not even for Oscar. Hatton would get crushed, so it looks like he'll spend the rest of his career lording over 140 until he decides to finally call it quits, which includes a potential showdown with Manny Pacquiao in the future. I don't mind this at all, DLH/Hatton wouldn't interest me anyway.
For the record, the rumor with Oscar's wife is that she didn't want him to fight any Puerto Rican fighters, seeing as how she's Puerto Rican herself, but I don't think that's gonna matter much if Cotto becomes available for a December fight. I don't know if Oscar's still gonna want to fight twice more, because it doesn't look like he can get a real name opponent in time for September other than possibly Sergio Mora.
So it looks like Hatton's onto Malignaggi then, but if he beats Paulie, what next for him? Witter's out of the picture for the meantime, Pacquiao still has to prove himself at lightweight, let alone super lightweight, especially when a third huge money megafight with Juan Manuel Marquez comes up as an option. I think for the moment, all Hatton could do until a megafight comes along is to consolidate himself at the top of 140. Hatton/Ricardo Torres is a guaranteed action fight, provided Torres gets by Kendall Holt. And if he beats Malignaggi, he inherits Herman Ngoudjo as his IBF mandatory. And considering Timothy Bradley took out Junior Witter, he's an pretty good option as well.
I like this. Let DLH and Hatton go their seperate paths. As much money as they would make together, they really don't need each other to make money in a fight that really wouldn't mean much in the long run to either man's legacy (at least not to DLH).

I just don't understand why you would not fight DeLahoya. I mean, I undersand that he is probably too small and would get beat, but if you really want to test yourself and make a ridiculous amount of money in the process...its' right in front of you...take it.
How many MMA fighters, and I mean the top tier best of the best, would kill to be a able to make the kind of money Hatton would make. Not to mention for the fans. Malignaggi is boring to me, I understand his speed and accuracy and ability to move well. It's just that a guy without even the outside chance of knocking out someone else bores the hell out of me. Not to mention I can't stand to hear him talk.
I'm not fond of Sergio either, though I will admit he looked good the other night, I don't want him to get the DLH payday.
And I know for sure that Salvy Mic is right about DLH promising his wife that he would not fight any more Puerto Ricans, but somehow I think that will be overlooked when it comes time for Cotto.
Cotto is the man to fight DLH. I don't care about the outcome. I just know that these are two guys who will come to fight and deserve the payday they will get for truly putting it on the line.
