Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Matt Vanda
ROBBED.
I almost missed this fight because it only aired on Azteca Box TV, Spanish, and it being on the same night as the heavyweight title fight with Klitschko...I was suspicious. But it was the real deal - Live, Ulises Solis on the card as well - Great technician, almost too good an event to be true. The fight itself...About as great as two completely exhausted up-and-coming fighters could put on. A lot of action, offense, and heart. Chavez Jr. being the most exhausted of the two - So much so that he pretty much sat all through the reading of the decision. While Vanda was hop scotching around with his hat on, pumped, thinking he won the fight, Chavez Jr. was being fanned with a towel in the corner. As for Chavez Senior, I figure he was taking some tea for his throat - He spent the whole night yelling at Junior from the third row (in camera most of the time), and helping himself to some of the same water he'd use to eventually come up and corner the boy himself...
Matt Vanda was robbed tonight. Close fight, sure. I had it Vanda by a round, I could have settled for a draw. But the third judge scored it 100-90 - To which the Mexican crowd responded with dousing the ring with beer. Now, for a Mexican crowd to show a sign of anger on BEHALF of a Mexican opponent (least to say the son of the greatest Mexican fighter ever) should tell you something.
Anyone catch this fight? I'd be stunned if anyone here saw it tonight, hah.
