Default Is boxing corrupt and fixed? This won't help it's cause

What's worse: incompetent MMA judges or corrupt boxing judges? Scott Christ explains what happened last night:

"After a fight that many felt he won, Malignaggi still had no beef with Juan Diaz. But his nightmares came true when he lost 115-113, 116-112 and a ridiculous 118-110 -- from Van Hoy -- on the scorecards.

From my view, Malignaggi (26-3 5 KO) largely dominated the fight defensively and with speed. He looked like the vintage Malignaggi that was a legit contender at 140 pounds. Diaz (35-2, 17 KO) did survive a bad cut this time around, and didn't fight badly. But he had a horrible time closing distance on the longer, taller, quicker Malignaggi, and it was Paulie that made much of the fight go.

It was also, it should be noted, a highly-entertaining style collision between two guys that came to mix it up and win. They both needed it badly, and fought like it. But it was Malignaggi, in my opinion, that won the bout. And I'm not alone. Bad Left Hook scored it 116-112 for Paulie. HBO's Harold Lederman scored it 115-113 for Malignaggi."

Malignaggi's nightmares come true in Houston, Diaz wins controversial*decision - Bad Left Hook

Quote:
Paulie Malignaggi called out judge Gale Van Hoy, the other two judges, the Texas Athletic Commission, and referee Laurence Cole before he showed up in Houston to fight hometown fighter Juan Diaz. The only guy he didn't rip on, in fact, was Juan Diaz.

After a fight that many felt he won, Malignaggi still had no beef with Juan Diaz. But his nightmares came true when he lost 115-113, 116-112 and a ridiculous 118-110 -- from Van Hoy -- on the scorecards.

Malignaggi spoke bluntly about the sport after the fight, saying something close to the effect of, "Boxing is full of s**t. I used to love the sport. Boxing is full of s**t. The only reason I do it is for a good payday."

Paulie has legitimate gripes right now. He was robbed, I think. You may disagree, and that's fine, but I'm just talking about how I saw the fight. And it was a Malignaggi win.

Although I haven't seen it, the uproar I've heard makes it seem like it's a very serious situation. I've migrated from boxing to MMA and haven't really followed it much, but I know about the problems with boxing and it's scoring and it's pretty sad really.

I watched the first half of this fight, it was a good fight, diaz landed a lot of power punches and it was a back and forth battle but it looked like malignaggi edged out most of the rounds.

I Personally think Paulie was Robbed I had him winning 7 rounds to 5 and that judge with the rediculus scorebad was load of crap.. To make matters worse all 3 judges were texas judges so maybe it played a big factor for Diaz cuz hes from Houston..but this is another reason why i just say boxing is corrupt now..its getting sad now cuz i still love the sport i was raised watching boxing then boxing/MMA..but now this judging and everything is bs ive seen so many boxers get screwed in decs.. maybe this wouldnt have happen if Diaz was not sponserd by Golden Boy

No it's not fixed. paulie may have did just enough to win in most peoples eyes, but it was a close fight.

I've seen more fucked up decisions in MMA and I don't hear people talking about it being fixed.

I've watched 1 too many F'ed up judging to care about boxing anymore, Oscar da la Hoya vs mosley 2 and Glen Johnson vs Chad Dawson are 2 off the top of my head.

I thought it was closer than what they had it but after catching a headbutt to his eye,and watching dude's showboating,I'm kinda glad it went the way of Diaz.I see Mag's complaint though.

I think that boxing is one of the most corrupt sports there is. Back in the 90's it was really bad. It is almost cliche to state that boxing is fixed or corrupt. I was a boxing fan when i was a kid but mma is just so much better. Let's hope that mma never gets as bad as boxing has.

It's not the fighting or most of the fighters. It's the judges. I can't understand how all of the judges scores are known, reviewed, and promoters, and the athletic commission do absolutely nothing with the judges who embarrass the sport and score rounds for the wrong fighter.

One of my favorite boxers Emanuel Augustus/Emanuel Burton has gone through this multiple times, with crooked judges and referees.

Judges never get disciplined for their actions and the commission always backs them up if the verdict of the bout is investigated. One HBO boxing before major fights, they usually show all the judges names and their scores in more popular or controversial fights. Some people can blame it on the 10 point must system, I say it is because judges rarely score rounds as even.

MMA has been a lot more lucky. Sometimes it comes down to the crowd reaction and atmosphere. (the reason I think the judges in the Bisping vs Hamill gave it to Bisping while fighting in jolly old England) Judges should be showcased and shown more. Are they actually intelligent or just talking to one another between rounds and are they always watching the fight and not spacing out and looking around...I've seen it in boxing and MMA.

Could be worse, could be Olympic figure skating judges.
